RW_Tools
| RW_Tools is donationware but will run 21 times without a licence. A licence can be obtained by making a donation via PayPal which, when installed in the RW_Tools folder, unlocks the program. The licence also covers RS_Tools (see below) |
|
| When I have received your donation, I will send a link to your licence and installation instructions via email. If you have not received an email from me within 24 hours, please Email me direct with details. I am now sending a link to your license as I have had problems with some ISPs deleting attachments from emails. Note: PayPal do not forward donations of less than US$2.00, no licence will be sent for such donations. |

RW_Tools2140.zip is the update to Version 2.1.40 dated 29 Aug 2010 (requires a previous full install as above).
The 2.1.40 update will not update any installation prior to the Version 2.0.96.
Due to a change in RailWorks v106.7a onwards, users MUST upgrade to RW_Tools v2.0.96 or later

RS_Tools_Installer.zip, the latest full installation of RS_Tools is Version 4.1.65
RST_Update.zip is the update to Version 4.1.82 dated 19 March 2010 (requires a previous full install as above).
There are two main aspects to this update, which support each other in making your RailWorks experience richer and more enjoyable:
- We have added a lot of new rolling stock variants, and new (open, flexible) mechanisms for creating them. These cover UK steam-era headcodes, different train tail-lamps for different regions and eras, and more passenger and locomotive variations. "Open, flexible" because the program can readily accommodate any future variations which can be implemented as children of the original vehicle.
- We have added functionality to the scenario packager and Asset Setup (unpackager) code that allows the scenario builder to specify any of the allowable variants to any stock in his scenario and have these faithfully (and literally) reproduced on the downloader's PC, providing only that he has the original stock item(s). 'When editing a scenario through RW_Tools, you can now tell which vehicle is the driven one, so for example, selecting the rear DMU unit to remove the driver from is simple.
- Collateral Repairs. In the course of developing and testing all this, we discovered the following anomalies: There are a number of UK passenger coaches that were issued with no passengers. Alice would have understood our difficulty in emptying coaches without anybody in them. So we provide an option, if you already have these coaches, to first fill them up, and then you can still use them empty again if you wish. So now, instead of driving a train full of empty coaches past carriage sidings with coaches full of passengers, you can reverse the situation (or wait until someone else does it for you).
Likewise, we found that in the original release of RailWorks, two of the DMOS Class 166 units have no driver. We give you the option to put a driver into these units. Note that you (or someone) will need to rework existing scenarios where the builder made deliberate use of this to ensure the rear unit was driver-less. But the terror of seeing an oncoming apparently driverless 166 set shunting at 80mph on the fast up should become a bad memory, and was illegal 011 a number of counts. As an aside, the Class 158 was released with a driverless version of all driveable units.
With this release, the functionality previously found in RS_KickStart has been folded back into RW_Tools (mostly under Edit Scenarios), and considerably enhanced. That program will not be developed any further. In IBM's immortal words - it has been "functionally stabilised."
So this update should appeal to both the scenario builder (whether for publication or private use) arid the simmer who just runs scenarios built by others. If you do modify an existing scenario for publication, please remember to ask the original author's permission before uploading.
A lot of work has gone into this release (and all the previous ones), and while we still intend to provide the base program as freeware. We feel it is not unreasonable that the minimum donation for a perpetual lifetime licence for a new user will henceforth be US$10. The licence will allow access to the following options:-
- The ability to populate empty UK passenger carriages with passengers (the currently empty ones will be renamed with the _MT suffix)
- The ability to replace missing Assets in downloaded routes with items you already have.
- The ability to Clone assets ready for re-skinning,
- The ability to easily change the Starting Points and Destinations of consists within a Scenario by simply clicking a list of Platform Siding etc names.
- The ability to individually alter Start Times of any consist within a scenario to enable fine tuning.
- The ability to change the Scenario Class of any train in a scenario.
- The ability to duplicate a consist and place it anywhere in the route.
More Recent Additions
Other options which have recently been added to the program or updated are:-
- Add Route Description to your Route
It is possible to add a Route Description file to your new route, however some users find this difficult as the file must be in .html format and saved in an obscure sub-folder of the Content\Routes folder. I have therefore added a new option to the Easy Blueprints menu named 'Add Route Description', this brings up a list of routes so that you may select your route, then a window opens into which you may type your route title and description. - Add Route Loading Picture
When you load any of the Default Routes, you will see a route map while you are loading the simulator. RW_Tools now allows you to add a map you have painted yourself so that it appears while your route is loading. - Package a Route
The Route, Assets, and Scenario packagers have been improved - Add Conductor to a Diesel’s Cab
Adds a conductor or second engineer to the cab of any diesel loco. - You may now convert marker files (.mkr / .kml etc.) directly to Rail Simulator’s .dcsv files with no need to use the Assets Editor or get involved with Blueprints. The corresponding .bin file is also produced.
- RW_Tools now has options to edit the physics of all locomotive types with no need to do any .xml editing. It also displays graphs of several of the physics .dcsv files such as Throttle vs Speed etc.
